Compressor station with piping and metering equipment, the remote midstream sites ForgeSOC monitors through SCADA and RTU telemetry

Oil and gas midstream

Midstream OT security monitoring

Your sites are spread across counties and mostly unmanned. ForgeSOC monitors the OT platform you already own so pipeline SCADA alerts get read when no one is on location.

01 / The environment

Compressor stations, meter stations and RTUs

Midstream operations run on distributed control. Compressor stations have PLCs and local HMIs managing units and auxiliaries. Meter stations track custody transfer. RTUs sit at valves, tank sites and wellhead tie-ins and report to a central SCADA master.

Most of those sites are unmanned. Data returns over remote telemetry, whether radio, cellular or satellite. A small control room team watches the whole system, and the network between them is long and varied.

02 / The exposure

Remote and unmanned means unwatched

Pipeline SCADA monitoring is hard because the sites are far from the people. A vendor technician connects to a compressor PLC. A new device shows up on a telemetry link. A cellular modem starts talking to somewhere unusual. Each of those is visible to a passive OT security platform.

The control room is staffed for operations, not for reading security alerts. Compressor station OT security depends on someone reading those alerts consistently, especially outside business hours.

  • Remote access paths used by vendors and integrators.
  • Telemetry links that cross carrier networks.
  • Engineering laptops that move between sites.
  • Unattended stations with no one to ask what changed.

03 / What we do

How ForgeSOC covers midstream sites

We watch the platform you already run, with read-only access.

  • 01Validate alerts and suppress duplicates across stations and RTU networks.
  • 02Review asset, network and event context so a meter station alert is read as a meter station alert.
  • 03Assign severity and escalate with a clear written rationale.
  • 04Notify your control room and on-call contacts, then follow up until handoff.
  • 05Monitor platform and sensor connectivity so a silent remote site is flagged.
  • 06Report monthly and true up the asset list quarterly.

04 / Coverage

Hours when the control room is thin

Pipelines run all day. Your security attention does not. ForgeSOC can provide 24/7/365 monitoring, or cover nights and weekends, or a single dedicated window.

Our L1/L2 analysts work from a dedicated, secured SOC in the Philippines, so their working day lands in the US night. Confirmed findings escalate to US-based OT specialists who talk to your people in your time zone.

05 / Boundaries

Monitoring, not response

We do not operate the pipeline, touch RTUs or write to controllers. We do not deploy your platform, do forensics, or run containment. If a finding is confirmed, your team decides what to do, and we can connect you with response partners.

If your sensors do not yet cover remote sites well, tell us on the first call. We can scope a readiness project to get coverage where it matters.

06 / Getting started

How we set up a midstream footprint

Onboarding begins with read-only access through your secure remote access platform. If you do not have one, we recommend one rather than falling back to a plain VPN. We then review your platform with you to see which stations, RTU networks and telemetry links it covers.

We map escalation contacts by asset group, so a compressor station alert reaches the field supervisor and control room lead you choose. We write runbooks, review the current alert baseline, and run a test escalation before live monitoring starts.

Operators with a small number of sites and a lean control room team are our best fit. One to ten locations, one platform, and a clear idea of who gets the call.

07 / FAQ

Midstream questions

01Can you see our remote stations?

We see what your OT security platform sees. If it covers a station, we monitor it. If a sensor goes quiet, we flag it.

02Do you connect over a plain VPN?

No. Access is through your secure remote access platform or a hardened jump host, read-only, with MFA and logged sessions.

03Will analysts change anything on our SCADA?

No. Access is read-only and response decisions stay with you.
